Founded in 1953, Cal Poly’s Chinese Students’ Association was established to create community and connection for Chinese and Chinese American students on a predominantly white campus. When representation and support systems were limited, CSA provided a space where students could gather and celebrate traditions.

As Cal Poly grew and diversified, CSA evolved alongside it. The organization expanded to include large-scale cultural showcases, campus-wide celebrations, and collaborative events with other student organizations. These initiatives allowed CSA to both strengthen its internal community and share Chinese culture with the broader campus.

Additionally, CSA developed mentorship structures called Fams to foster deeper connections among members. Leadership opportunities within the organization enable generations of students to build confidence, organizational skills, and lifelong friendships through the Big & Little Program.

More than seventy years after its founding, the club continues to serve as a home for students seeking community, cultural pride, and meaningful connection. With each generation of leaders bringing fresh ideas, the core purpose remains the same: to ensure that students feel seen, supported, and connected here at Cal Poly.
